Chile is a 4.300 km long and narrow country, located in the western coast of South America between the 18° and 53°S of latitude. According to our national tourism agency, SERNATUR (www.sernatur.cl), Chile may be subdivided in 5 touristic regions, four of which are located in the continent, and has similar weather to other places in the world located in the west coasts of the continents. These 5 regions are:
1. NORTH AREA AND ATACAMA DESERT
Similar to Western Australia, Mexico, Morocco
To reach to this region it is required taking a flight from Santiago to one of the northern cities of Chile (Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta or Calama). Important touristic places include San Pedro de Atacama and the entire Altiplano region of the Andes Mountains.
